My Mother's Chocolate Valentine

My Mother's Chocolate Valentine
by Jack Prelutsky

I bought a box of chocolate hearts,
a present for my mother,
they looked so good I tasted one,
and then I tried another.

They both were so delicious
that I ate another four,
and then another couple,
and then half a dozen more.

I couldn't seem to stop myself,
I nibbled on and on,
before I knew what happened
all the chocolate hearts were gone.

I felt a little guilty,
I was stuffed down to my socks,
I ate my mother's valentine...
I hope she likes the box.

If you ate all your mother's chocolates, you could always get her a bracelet instead. She'd probably like it a lot.

  2. Eleanor,
You put much effort into finding just the right pictures, poems, colors, and such to complement your jewelry! I got a kick out of the poem, "My Mother's Chocolate Valentine!" Mothers do, perhaps, get the short end of the stick more often than not. However, they generally handle it with grace and love. I decided to try my hand at writing a little "ditty" with a similar theme, and beginning in a similar manner. I could never be mistaken for a poet or bard, but the exercise did did give me a few minutes of amusement! Hope you smile too!

    MY MOTHER'S VALENTINE

I bought my mom a bracelet
As red as red could be.
Full of hearts, and beads and such,
    But wanted it for me!
I felt that there was other bling
She'd find that was as nice.
The Corner Store was full of things
    That sparkled and enticed!

Charms and rings or eyeglass things
    All wonderful and new!
But, gee, they all looked good on ME,
So what was I to do?

Perhaps these goodies were too much
'Cause Mom was quite low key.
"I've never been the flashy type, Honey, don't you see?"

I loved my mom; it was my goal
To bring her joy, not sorrow.
Perhaps she wouldn't care to own,
    But rather, simply borrow!

What did I do, you ask me now?
The choice was not so hard.
I went and bought my mother, dear,
    A lovely Hallmark card!
