The Haunted House on Howlin’ Hill

Haunted

by Shel Silverstein

I dare you all to go into
The Haunted House on Howlin’ Hill,
Where squiggly things with yellow eyes
Peek past the wormy window sill.

We’ll creep into the moonlit yard,
Where weeds reach out like fingers,
And through the rotted old front door
A-squeakin’ on it hinges,

Down the dark and whisperin’ hall,
Past the musty study,
Up the windin’ staircase--
Don’t step on the step that’s bloody--

Through the secret panel
To the bedroom where we’ll slide in
To the ragged cobweb dusty bed
Ten people must have died in.

And the bats will screech,
And the spirits will scream,
And the thunder will crash
Like a horrible dream,

And we’ll sing with the zombies
And dance with the dead.
And howl at the ghost
With the axe in his head,

And--come to think of it what do you say
We go get some ice cream instead?

There are three things I have learned never to discuss with people:

religion
politics
and the Great Pumpkin.

It's EHAG Emporium time, and what better time to look at pumpkins??

The Pumpkin Formerly Known as Cinderella's Carriage

You all know the story of Cinderella.

When poor Cinderella wanted to go to the ball,
her Fairy Godmother appeared...

...and turned a pumpkin...

...into a carriage.

The trick was that, at midnight, the carriage
would turn back into a pumpkin.

Cinderella overcame all that.

She married the Prince and moved to the
big castle on the hill.

And her pumpkin returned to the pumpkin patch.

But the pumpkin had already experienced much
in her short life.  She had, after all, observed
a royal ball with dancing, champagne sipped from slippers
and a lot of tasty hors d'oeuvres.

So the next time a fairy godmother came through,
Cinderella's pumpkin made a request.

Each night, at midnight, she would turn into a ghostly skeleton.

She could dance all night...

...with werewolves and vampires...

...and other exciting creatures of the night.

Then, as the sun rose over the pumpkin patch...

...Cinderella's pumpkin would become a pumpkin once more.

She is available on etsy.
Fill her slipper with champagne and she may follow you home.

Zombies and Werewolves and Black Cats with Kittens

Photobucket
Zombies and werewolves and black cats with kittens,
Witches with cauldrons and potions unwritten,
Photobucket

Ghosts, ghouls and goblins on their ghastly flings,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Photobucket
Spiders and critters in dry pumpkin patches,
Sweet candy apples on which your crowns catches,
Photobucket

Bats who eye hairdos they snatch with their wings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Because Halloween is Right Around the Corner

Father and Mother
by X.J. Kennedy

My father's name is Frankenstein,
He comes from the Barbados.
He fashioned me from package twine
And instant mashed potatoes.

My mother's name is Draculeen,
She lets a big bat bite her,

And folks who sleep here overnight
Wake up a few quarts lighter.

Father, Mother, and their beady offspring need a home.  Bracelet up for auction on eBay.

Once Upon a Candy Corn

Photobucket

Long ago all candy corn

Photobucket

Was made by hand, or so it's sworn.

Each color laid out fresh each morn

And that's how candy corn was born.

Pumpkin Head's Little Twin Brothers

Ever see the movie Pumpkinhead?  Me neither.  It was directed by the legendary Stan Winston, and it's about a guy who conjures up a gigantic vengeance demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy the teenagers who accidentally killed his son.

 Photobucket

Then there's Pumpkinhead's dancing brother, Pumpkin Head.

And then there are Pumpkinhead's little twin brothers.

Photobucket

They don't wreak vengeance or dance.  They just hang around looking cute, and apologizing for their other brothers' behaviors.

Photobucket

Then they like to lie down in the leaves and make leaf angels.  If you need some cheery Pumpkin Heads, they're here.  Actually, they're here even if you don't need some.
