The Top Ten Reasons to Adopt a Black Cat

Contrary to popular belief, in many cultures, black cats are thought to be lucky.

Consider the Old English charm:

Black cat, cross my path
Good fortune bring to home and hearth
When I am away from home
Bring me luck wherever I roam
- Old English Charm

Freya, the Norse Goddess of Love & Fertility drives a chariot pulled by two black cats.

To dream of a black cat is thought by many people to be a lucky omen.

In the theater world, it is thought that a black cat in the audience means the play will be successful.

In the south of France, black cats are referred to as "matagots" or "magician cats."

Fisherman's wives often kept black cats while their husbands went away to sea, believing the black cats protected their husbands from danger.

Yet black cats are the most commonly euthanized cats in shelters, because they are the hardest to place.

Here then, courtesy of http://fullcirclenews.blogspot.com/2007/08/black-cats.html, are the top ten reasons to adopt a black cat.

10. You'll save $$ on their Halloween costumes.

9. You can always find them in the snow.

8. Holding a black cat is very slimming.

7. Black cats will match any decor.

6. A lint brush isn't required for a black-tie affair.

5. When you love a black cat, Luck is on your side.

4. Black cats are like onyx, a beautiful gem.

3. Hey, they don't care what color you are!

2. Love knows no color.

And the number one reason to adopt a black cat...

1. They are the least likely to be adopted.

In the comments, please leave another reason to adopt a black cat.  On March 15th. I will draw a name and that person will win a black cat charm, created by me, in the Bead cave.

In the mean time, the bracelet you see, with thirteen lucky black cats, is for sale in my etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/cornerstoregoddess

Knock on Wood

by Shel Silverstein

If you are superstitious you'll never step on cracks.

When you see a ladder you will never walk beneath it.

And if you ever spill some salt you'll thrown some 'cross your back,
And carry' round a rabbit's foot just in case you need it.

You'll pick up any pin that you find lying on the ground,
And never, never, ever throw your hat upon the bed,

Or open an umbrella when you are in the house.
You'll bite your tongue each time you say

A thing you shouldn't have said.
You'll hold your breath and cross your fingers

Walkin' by a graveyard,
And number thirteen's never gonna do you any good.

Black cats will all look vicious, if you're superstitious,
But I'm not superstitious (knock on wood).

The Night is a Big Black Cat

by G. Orr Clark
The Night is a big black cat,
The Moon is her topaz eye,

The stars are the mice she hunts at night
In the field of the sultry sky.

Three Unlikely Roommates

A skull and black cat on parole

Met a bat who'd moved from the North Pole.
The bat would hang out
As the cat lay about

And the skull said, "That's just how I roll."

The Three Unlikely Roommates come as a set and can be found here.

The Owl and the Pussycat...as Portrayed by Charms

by Edward Lear

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat, (accompanied by a manatee)

They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,

'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
          You are,
          You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'

II
Pussy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
    How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows (elephants can always be found near Bong Trees)

And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
          His nose,
          His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
'Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill. (This is his neighbor, the eagle).

They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
    Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
          The moon,
          The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

The Cats of KilKenny

There once were two cats of Kilkenny,

Photobucket

Each thought there was one cat too many;

Photobucket

So they fought and they fit,

Photobucket

And they scratched and they bit,

Photobucket

'Til, excepting their nails,

Photobucket

And the tips of their tails,

Photobucket

Instead of two cats, there weren't any.

Photobucket

Many CHARMing cats remain here, however.
