The Story of the First Thanksgiving, as Told by the Residents of the Land of BrightandShinyThings

The year 1620 the Pilgrims came over

The good ship Mayflower brought them 'cross the sea.

They landed at Plymouth Rock,

Then built up their houses.

At harvest time they started our Thanksgiving Day.

Okay.  I admit it's not the whole story, and the illustrations are whimsical, but I learned the song in first grade and it's been stuck in my head ever since.

Thanksgiving BrightandShinyThings here.

The Turkey as Our National Bird

Photobucket

Photobucket

Long ago, or so I've heard,
The famed Ben Franklin quite bestirred

Photobucket

The people re: a national bird.
And while the turkey seems absurd,

Photobucket

A turkey, if he were captured,
And thinking of his poor gizzard

Photobucket

Would hope a hunter'd be deterred
And keep him as a bird pampered.

The turkey said, and I concurred,
Check this piece and its turkey herd.

Things to Remember

I Must Remember

~Shel Silverstein

I must remember…
Turkey on Thanksgiving,
Photobucket

Pudding on Christmas,
Eggs on Easter,
Chicken on Sunday,
Photobucket

Fish on Friday,
Leftovers, Monday.

But ah, me – I am such a dunce.
I went and ate then all at once.
